Safety tips for driving in school zones

On Behalf of | Aug 31, 2022 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

The school year is upon us in California. Rules regarding driving in school zones will again be in force. Students are not the only ones who need to learn safe driving lessons. You, too, must maintain the utmost care when driving in these areas. Here are some tips to help you.

Obey the speed limit

Set an example as a safe driver for your children. This is the best way to teach them valuable skills that will help them to avoid motor vehicle accidents. It is a sad fact that even though most school crossing zones are clearly marked, children are still hit in these areas.

The most important thing you can do to avoid a collision is to obey the speed limit. Some limits may be as low as 10 or 15 miles per hour while others are set at 20. Pay special attention to where the zone begins and ends. Obeying the speed limit can be the difference between avoiding an accident or causing one.

Speeding and other risky behaviors are absolutely forbidden in a school zone. These are safety risks that take on extra weight in this environment. Exercise an extra level of responsibility and care as you proceed through these areas.

Be aware of school buses

Pay extra attention to the presence of school buses around you. Wherever you see a bus, you can be sure that children will be present. Slow down when you are near to or behind a school bus and do not make moves to pass one.

Obeying the speed limit and avoiding distractions will help keep you and others safe.
