Disposable Baby Wipes Recall – Product Recall Due to Bacteria

Baby Wipe Recall:

Parents, please take notice that Nutek Disposables of Pennsylvania issued a voluntary recall for its baby wipes because some packages may contain a bacteria that’s often resistant to common antibiotics.  Due to this product defect the baby wipes were recalled.

The recalled wipes were sold under the brand names: Cuties, Diapers.com, Femtex, Fred’s, Kidgets, Member’s Mark, Simply Right, Sunny Smiles, Tender Touch and Well Beginnings.

They were sold to: Walgreens, Sam’s Club, Family Dollar, Fred’s and Diapers.com.

After Nutek received some complaints of discoloration and an odor, Nutek said it conducted tests and found that some of the products contained the bacteria, Burkholderia cepacia (B. cepacia).  CNN reports, according to the Centers for Disease Control B. cepacia poses no risk to healthy people, however, those with weakened immune systems or lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis, could be infected.  According to BabyCenter.com, anyone with immune deficiencies or chronic lung disease who may have used these wipes is advised to consult with a medical professional as soon as possible.

Consumer reports of rashes, irritation, infections, fever, gastro-intestinal issues, and respiratory issues, as of this time, have not been confirmed to be directly related to use of wipes.  The company said it has received several reports of rashes, irritation and fever — but “these reports have not been confirmed to be related to the use of these products.”

Nutek hasn’t yet pinpointed how the bacteria got into the supply. It has stopped shipping baby wipes made in that facility.

If your family or child has been injured in connection with the baby wipes recall, you should consult an attorney experienced in product liability and personal injury cases.
